PRESS RELEASE
Starion Deutschland GmbH has been awarded a contract to provide Network and Information Security Engineering Services to EUMETSAT (the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites), with the aim of developing an integrated and centralised long-term approach for the implementation of EUMETSAT’s Information Security Management System (ISMS). This will cover EUMETSAT’s IT networks and systems, which comprise operational ground segments, information and communication technology (ICT) solutions and general services (GES) solutions.
EUMETSAT provides 24/7, 365 days a year weather and climate-related satellite data, images and derived products to its 30 Member States, including their national meteorological services, as well as to other users worldwide. Making sure the data has not been tampered with is therefore imperative.
Under this contract, Starion will conduct a thorough evaluation of EUMETSAT’s current IT security position and support the definition of measures to improve it. This will include providing additional security engineering resources to design and support the implementation of state-of-the-art security solutions. Starion will also operate and maintain the systems related to EUMETSAT’s IT and Data Division Security (I2D/SEC) team infrastructure and services.
A further important task under this contract is for Starion to strengthen EUMETSAT’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Security Operations Centre (SOC) service. This will involve providing additional security engineering capabilities to reduce the average resolution times for security incidents managed by both services.
Aldo Barbieri, Vice-President Starion Deutschland GmbH, said: “I am very proud of Starion winning this contract for many reasons. Starion has worked with EUMETSAT for over 30 years on all its satellite programmes and therefore we understand its objectives, processes and procedures. Starion also has extensive expertise in the field of cybersecurity for space, which provides us with an opportunity to identify and mitigate any potential vulnerabilities within each satellite programme and gives EUMETSAT the confidence that its data and services are in safe hands.”
