I’m an IT Services Supervisor focused on security-related matters, based at ESA’s Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN) in Italy.

What’s your role?

I work for Starion, but I’m based at the European Space Agency’s Centre for Earth Observation (ESA ESRIN) in Frascati, Italy, where I’m an IT Services Supervisor focused on security-related matters. I support the ESA IT Service Governance in the End-User Service Operations Section.

I’ve been with Starion for 1 year, but I have been working within ESA for over 25 years!

What’s a typical day in your working life like?

A typical day for me involves overseeing various IT Services, ensuring that our services run smoothly, and collaborating with different teams to address any security and technical challenges that arise.

I attend numerous meetings with internal staff, providers and vendors to discuss the progress of projects and technical solutions to improve the security posture. My work is quite varied, as I get to engage in both strategic planning and hands-on problem solving.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to work with a diverse and talented team. I take great pride in getting involved in complex situations and seeing the positive impact of my work on the organisation.

What has been your most memorable career highlight?

One of the most memorable highlights of my career so far has been my personal involvement in the preparation and participation in an important external audit for ESA, which led to ESA gaining a specific certification.

Do you have any tips for people trying to get jobs in your area of expertise?

For those aspiring to enter the IT field, I would advise developing strong problem-solving skills and staying up to date with the latest technological advancements. A combination of technical expertise and effective communication is key to success in this area.

How do you wind down?

After a busy workday, I like to unwind by swimming and cycling.
