Starion Italia has been awarded a contract to operate and maintain IT services related to the European Space Agency’s (ESA’s) high security environments.
ESA has recently awarded Starion Italia SpA, with subcontractor Starion Deutschland, a contract for General Procurement for the Corporate IT Department’s Security Operations Services – Classified. The contract is specifically to operate and maintain IT services related to ESA’s high security environments, with the baseline services of: ESA’s Classified Restricted Data Services; Privileged Access Management Services; and ESA’s Central Logging Services (ECLS).
This new contract sits within ESA’s IT Department (ESAIT), which is part of the Directorate of Internal Services, and provides and manages the common IT systems and services used across ESA. It ensures these systems meet ESA standards and the needs of its users. ESAIT also works to create efficient, cost-effective IT solutions and architectures, and to protect, manage and share information on ESA’s common IT infrastructure.
Within this contract Starion will be operating the security controls and IT services managed by ESAIT. It focuses on Information Protection and Infrastructure Protection, ensuring that IT environments and data hosting solutions are run securely and meet high security standards. These include both ESA’s ‘Unclassified’ (protection levels 1 and 2) and ‘Classified’ levels, including ‘ESA Restricted’ (protection level 3), ESA Confidential and ESA Secret.
Silvia de Castro Garcia, Managing Director at Starion, said: “Starion has over 15 years’ experience in providing secure operations development and support to its clients. We are delighted to support ESA in this important operational service under a specific dedicated contract. The contract commences on 1 January 2026, and I know our team is looking forward to working with ESA and other consortium members to keep ESA’s data safe.”
