We are looking for a Software Developer to support our client EUROCONTROL based in Brussels, Belgium.

EUROCONTROL is a pan-European, civil-military organization that supports the European aviation sector and has responsibility for making European skies safer, more efficient, cost effective and environmentally sustainable. Starion Group provides a broad range of system engineering services related to ARTAS, the surveillance data processing system, including cybersecurity requirements.
Starion Group is focusing on software development of Air Surveillance Systems:
- Designed to serve a variety of purposes, disseminating relevant surveillance data to a wide range of system Users.
- Under constant evolution to meet the required levels of functional performance.
- Seamlessly integrated with Europe’s multi-centre operational environment
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Participating in the development and implementation of our client’s software applications for air traffic control.
- Conducting the software development of our Client Air Surveillance System along its full lifecycle for preventive, adaptive and corrective maintenance. Including the following activities:
- Developing and improving the installation procedure using prototypes and new requirements’ definition.
- Following the Validation & Verification of the changes until complete integration of new Hardware and/or Operating System in the SDDS baseline.
- Evaluating and identifying weakness in the SDDS Cybersecurity.
- Defining and developing the necessary requirements to improve SDDS resilience against cyberattacks.
- Prototyping and defining the best SDDS virtualization solutions, documenting them and facilitating the selection process for decision-makers.
- Developing prototypes to facilitate the Human-Machine Interface’s enhancement.
- Analyzing, enhancing and developing the test artifacts needed for the SDDS Test Environment
- Updating the product lifecycle and test documentation.
- Investigating incidents in order to diagnose, propose and implement the optimal solution.
- Contributing to studies, workgroups and projects related to system management.
- Carrying out any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- University Degree or equivalent in Engineering or a relevant field.
- At least one year proven experience in at least four of the following areas:
- Functional and system aspects of Air Traffic Management systems or products of similar scope and complexity.
- Quality assurance aspects of software development.
- Safety assurance aspects of software development for safety critical systems.
- Software problem analysis.
- Writing testable requirement specifications.
- Software design.
- Verification and testing of complex software systems.
- Software configuration management.
- Programming in C++, Java or Python programming languages.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- A minimum of one year’s experience in ATM/ATC environment.
- A minimum of 6 months experience with ASTERIX surveillance data format.
