As a Satellite Operations & Space Weather Specialist, you will join a new national project establishing the German National Space Weather Advisory Service. The mission is to protect German satellite operations and critical infrastructure from space weather impacts, strengthening national resilience across space‑based and terrestrial systems.

You will support the Project Lead in assessing needs, evaluating risks, engaging stakeholders, and shaping a tailored portfolio of space weather services aligned with German and European frameworks.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Identifying requirements for a national space weather advisory service covering satellite and dependent systems.
  • Assessing the impact of space weather events on German infrastructure using expertise in space weather and satellite operations.
  • Engaging with German stakeholders to assess real‑world impacts and define appropriate protective measures.
  • Conducting market surveys to identify existing protection measures, potential collaborations, and synergies with current offerings.
  • Developing a tailored portfolio of space weather services and products for German needs, aligned with the wider European framework.
  • Supporting requirements assessment for a national space weather advisory service.
  • Collaborating with German need‑holder representatives to assess the impacts of space weather events and identify appropriate protection measures.
  • Assisting in analysing the market for existing protection measures and identifying collaboration opportunities and potential synergies.
  • Contributing to the development of a portfolio of recommended space weather services, products, and offerings for national deployment.
  • Ensuring alignment of tasks with project milestones.
  • Preparing reports, documentation, and inputs for presentations and project deliverables.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or Diploma in a relevant field, such as space sciences, astrophysics, aerospace engineering, or satellite operations.
  • A first professional experience in Germany in a relevant area related to space weather, space weather services, or satellite operations.
  • Strong analytical skills, the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and effective communication skills.”
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Proven proficiency in German and English at C1 level or above, required for interaction with government agencies, research institutions, and industry partners.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Good knowledge of European and German space policy frameworks, combined with experience in collaborative project work.
