Full Stack Engineer (Space Data)

We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer (Space Data) to join our Software Development team in Diegem, Belgium.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, development and enhancement of end-to-end software solutions supporting operational systems for satellite and scientific data processing. Working across backend services, APIs, databases and user interfaces, you will help deliver scalable, reliable and maintainable applications using modern cloud and container-based technologies.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

• Contributing to the architecture, design, development and evolution of full-stack software systems supporting current and future space missions.
• Designing, developing and testing robust, scalable and maintainable software solutions.
• Analysing user and system requirements, supporting software architecture, data modelling and interface design activities.
• Developing and enhancing Java-based backend services, REST APIs and service-oriented applications.
• Creating responsive, user-focused interfaces using React and modern web technologies.
• Designing and maintaining relational database solutions and data-access components.
• Integrating frontend, backend and database technologies into seamless end-to-end solutions.
• Developing and deploying cloud-based and containerised applications for the processing and distribution of space-related data.
• Supporting software quality through automated testing, code reviews and continuous integration practices.
• Troubleshooting complex application issues and drive performance, reliability and maintainability improvements.
• Producing and maintaining clear technical documentation, including requirements, design and test specifications.
• Taking ownership of software components while collaborating closely with software, system and customer teams in an international environment.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years experience developing full-stack software solutions.
• Strong expertise in Java, backend development, REST APIs and web services.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented and service-oriented design principles.
• Proven ability to develop modern, responsive user interfaces using React, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Good understanding of modern client-server technologies, including WebSockets, GraphQL, async HTTP and SSE.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, database technologies and data-driven application development.
• Hands-on experience integrating frontend, backend and database components into end-to-end solutions.
• Familiarity with modern authentication mechanisms including OAuth, OpenID Connect and JWT.
• Working knowledge of Git, Maven, Jenkins, Nexus and CI/CD environments.
• Comfortable working within Linux-based development and deployment environments.
• Understanding of automated testing, integration testing and software quality practices.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and continuous integration practices.
• Strong documentation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within international teams.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

• Familiarity with Angular or Vue.js.
• Knowledge of OData, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Exposure to cloud-native, containerised and DevOps/CI/CD environments.
• Experience with modern UI, API and testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of Ground Segment, Mission Control or Earth Observation systems.
