We are looking for a Concurrent and Model Based System Engineer to work at ESTEC’s premises in Noordwijk, Netherlands.

About the client and location

The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. As ESA’s largest test centre, it is responsible for the majority of space technology and spacecraft development through varying phases of production.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Providing systems engineering support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes, and studies, focusing primarily on early project phases while remaining adaptable to later stages.
  • Supporting project reviews and proposal evaluations, ensuring technical soundness and alignment with ESA’s objectives.
  • Developing and promoting the digitalisation of systems engineering, including the adoption and integration of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies across projects.
  • Participating in feasibility studies conducted within the Concurrent Design Facility (CDF), contributing to the definition and validation of innovative mission concepts.
  • Enhancing tools, methods, and processes for systems and concurrent engineering to strengthen efficiency, collaboration, and technical consistency.
  • Fostering the application of concurrent engineering approaches, encouraging multidisciplinary teamwork and the use of cutting-edge technologies and advanced system architectures.
  • Contributing to the definition and implementation of ESA’s technology strategy, aligning systems engineering initiatives with long-term innovation goals.
  • Supporting the preparation and execution of R&D work plans, including industrial activity management, procurement, and progress monitoring.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with Concurrent Engineering methodology, tools, and applications.
  • Knowledge of the space systems domains, including Mission Analysis.
  • Background in digitalisation, data-driven engineering methods, and MBSE tools.
  • Technical Authoring and Documentation Management, including preparation, editing, and quality control of technical reports, project documentation, and web-based content.
  • Production and Maintenance of Communication Material, including websites, multimedia content, graphics, and knowledge dissemination tools.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
