We are looking for a Systems Engineering & IV&V Specialist to join our team at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany.
In this exciting role, you will contribute to the engineering, integration, verification and validation of cutting-edge Earth Observation Ground Segment systems supporting critical weather, climate and environmental monitoring missions.
Working in a highly international environment, you will play an important role in ensuring the successful delivery, performance and evolution of next-generation satellite ground segment and data processing capabilities.
About the client and location
The European Organisation for the Exploration of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is a political organisation comprising of 30 European member states. EUMETSAT operates satellites to monitor weather, climate, and the changing environment. They are responsible for helping to isolate potentially dangerous weather conditions that could affect air travel, farming and other key service industries.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Leading and supporting System and Ground Segment engineering activities, including requirements definition, traceability, interface management and technical documentation.
- Contributing to the successful integration, verification and validation (IV&V) of complex Earth Observation Ground Segments and their associated subsystems.
- Preparing and maintaining high-quality test specifications, procedures, test data and verification reports, ensuring end-to-end requirements traceability.
- Driving test campaigns and supporting verification activities, reviews, anomaly investigations and resolution processes across multiple mission phases.
- Supporting the deployment, integration and validation of mission data processing systems and operational Ground Segment environments.
- Contributing to the verification of end-to-end data processing chains, from mission data acquisition through to the generation, archiving and dissemination of L0, L1 and L2 products.
- Participating in key engineering reviews and project milestones, supporting requirements, design, integration and verification activities throughout the system lifecycle.
- Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure Ground Segment solutions are delivered efficiently and meet mission performance objectives.
- Supporting the mission control, mission planning, telemetry, commanding and satellite simulation activities where required.
- Maintaining a strong focus on quality, configuration management and continuous improvement throughout engineering and IV&V activities.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- University Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Systems Engineering and IV&V activities within Earth Observation, space or Ground Segment programmes.
- Experience with Ground Segment integration, verification and validation activities.
- Proven experience preparing technical documentation, including requirements, test specifications, procedures and reports.
- Knowledge of requirements management, traceability and interface engineering, ideally using tools such as DOORS.
- Experience supporting end-to-end data processing systems and workflows, including L0, L1 and L2 products.
- Familiarity with Linux environments and configuration management practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in an international team.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Experience with SysML, Enterprise Architect or similar system modelling tools.
- Knowledge of CCSDS standards, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and EUMETSAT Ground Segment environments
