Your Mission
Are you looking for an opportunity to join a meaningful project? To bring your expertise into high-stakes activities that safeguard Europe? To join an international group with a successful track record in delivering Top-Tier Engineering services in Space, Defence and Cybersecurity sectors?
We are looking for a Senior System Engineer – “Architecture & Integration” to integrate a brand new team to support the Dutch Ministry of Defence, on Materiel Project Phases DMP-B and DMP-D. You will be responsible for the overall systems engineering approach, design development, verification and validation activities, and the effective coordination of technical teams and project interfaces.
Tasks and Activities
This isn’t a role where you inherit a mature process and keep it running. You’ll help the Dutch Ministry of Defence shape how it applies (model-based) systems engineering. Rather than introducing a complete SE framework in one go, the MOD is taking a pragmatic, phased approach: start where targeted improvements deliver the most value, then build towards a mature MBSE practice step by step. You’ll play a key role in setting those priorities and guiding the organisation along the way.
Depending on the engineering phase of the project, you will:
- Turn operational needs into engineering requirements. Work with the MOD’s engineering teams to translate key-user requirements into clear functional requirements, with every requirement traceable to the design decisions behind it. At a later stage, guide the system requirements engineering process together with the MOD’s subcontractors.
- Build the ship’s functional backbone. Define the functional breakdown of a naval vessel in a system model, based on its system breakdown structure. The model records which design decisions led to which derived requirements, so it becomes the single source of truth for traceability.
- Own the verification strategy. Shape the project’s verification framework, and support and coordinate verification activities towards and at every review gate across the engineering phases.
- Be the bridge between the MOD and industry. Support the MOD in agreeing systems engineering processes with its subcontractors: explain what the MOD needs from them, why it matters and how it fits into the bigger picture.
- Drive the change. Assess current practices and find where the quickest, highest-impact improvements are. Then help the engineering teams adopt better SE practices step by step, so that the improvements stick in how the organisation works.
What We’re Looking For
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Technical academic degree (WO/Master’s level) in Maritime/Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent qualifications and experience.
- Additional training or certification in Systems Engineering.
- At least 7 years of experience in systems engineering and the design, development and integration of complex systems.
- Proficient in PDM or PLM, like Siemens Teamcenter; in MBSE tools (like Capella, Cameo or Enterprise Architect) and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Experience using Requirements Management tools, like IBM Doors.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English and Dutch, mandatorily, both written and spoken.
Why Make the Move?
- Make an impact where it matters. Contribute to high profile projects supporting organisations such as ESA, EUMETSAT, the European Commission, NATO and national defence programmes.
- Work alongside some of Europe’s brightest minds. Join an international team of experts who thrive on collaboration, innovation and solving complex challenges that deliver real-world results.
- Grow beyond a single project. Join a growing international organisation and broaden your experience across a variety of projects and technical disciplines.
- Invest in your future. Benefit from ongoing training, mentoring and professional development opportunities designed to support both your personal and professional growth.
- Join a company that puts people first. Guided by our values of Integrity, Inspiration, Care and Collaboration, we offer a supportive culture, flexible working arrangements.
