Are you looking for a new opportunity adapted to your career ambitious and in which you could have an impact for the years to come?
Join Starion as a hands-on Software Architect Technical Lead and help shape the future of cybersecurity across European defence, space, and critical infrastructure programmes.
You will contribute to large-scale, high-impact cybersecurity initiatives for the European Space Agency, NATO, and the European Commission, developing systems that must remain resilient in highly regulated and evolving threat environments. For your starting project, you will lead the development of a large-scale cyber training and simulation platform for defence use, shaping both the technical architecture and the overall execution approach from the ground up.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Contributing to the development of cybersecurity products for simulation and testing of complex systems across space, defence, and critical infrastructure domains.
- Defining and designing the software architecture, including development standards covering technology choices, workflows, coding practices, and quality criteria.
- Providing technical leadership, guidance, and coaching within an Agile development team.
- Overseeing development progress and ensuring alignment with architectural design and quality standards.
- Addressing and resolving complex technical challenges across system design and implementation.
- Defining and owning the software architecture of the cyber security platform.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or a closely related technical field.
- 7+ years of software development experience, including technical leadership and software architecture responsibilities.
- Proven experience with complex, distributed software systems, preferably within regulated, defence, security or mission-critical contexts.
- Strong proficiency in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frontend frameworks (Angular, React, or equivalent).
- Good understanding of software architecture and design patterns (e.g. layered, hexagonal, event-driven, microservices), with experience in UML/SysML and architectural modelling.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, Git-based development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software quality practices (e.g. static analysis, SonarQube).
- Eligibility for EU security clearance.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Experience producing software architecture documentation for large and complex systems.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles.
- Experience in cloud and cloud-native environments, including integration with private/public cloud platforms (e.g. OpenStack, OpenNebula, AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes or equivalents), or microservices-based architectures.
- Experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem.
- Exposure to DevSecOps practices and secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC).
- Experience in technical leadership or delivery management of large, distributed teams, and/or project management certifications (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2).
