Tell us about your role
I am the Satellite Operations Services Manager for Starion in Luxembourg – I joined in July 2021.
In my role, I work for the Luxembourg Ministry of Defence in a consortium of companies called LUXEOps, which comprises Starion, OHB Digital Connect and LuxSpace. On a day-to-day basis, I am the Data Processing Centre Manager for the upcoming National Advanced Optical System (NAOS) control centre that will be established in Luxembourg.
What is your favourite aspect of your job?
My job on the NAOS project gives me the chance to interact every day with different stakeholders and teams, and be part of the growing space ecosystem in Luxembourg.
In my corporate role, I also have the chance to exchange and work with our higher-level management, and take an active part in the growth of Starion in Luxembourg and the company as a whole.
What made you want to work in the space sector?
Space has been my dream and passion since I was a child. Then, as an adult, I always wanted to work in a sector that is in constant evolution. And now I am an aerospace engineer!
What fascinates me most is how space commonly seems very distant and futuristic, but in reality, space applications help our daily lives more than (almost) everyone realises.
What has been your most memorable career highlight?
Even though I had only recently joined the company at the time, winning the NAOS contract with the Luxembourg Ministry of Defence was definitely one of my most memorable highlights.
In my previous roles, one of my biggest achievements was participating in a successful satellite validation test for a soon-to-be-launched satellite.
Would you recommend a space career? Any tips?
I cannot say otherwise: YES! The space sector is made up of passionate people and there is something new to learn every day.
Don’t be scared about starting at the bottom of the chain. Be proactive and create a network of good relationships around you.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Besides space, I love travelling, the arts – painting and pottery – and music. I really like doing sports too, especially swimming, cycling and hiking.
What many people do not know about me is that I have practiced rhythmic gymnastics for over 20 years.
