We are looking for a Software Engineer to work at our premises in Bath, United Kingdom. The key individual will support our Space Ground Segment Solutions team, with the opportunity to also work on other related space projects.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Software development activities for applications and tools in the frame of Starion Group’s ground segment satellite control space projects.
  • Taking ownership of technical issues and working closely with the Development Team to resolve advanced issues where necessary.
  • Ensuring timely bug fixes and communicating with customers.
  • Developing and contributing to new products and solutions.
  • Supporting and providing input to bids.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • A university degree (or equivalent) in Software Engineering, or another relevant domain.
  • At least three years’ experience in software engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented and service-oriented design techniques.
  • Previous experience using the following:
    • Java.
    • Eclipse RCP.
    • Continuous Integration using Jenkins, Nexus and GIT.
    • Linux.
    • Python.
    • C++
  • A client-oriented, dynamic and proactive attitude with a willingness to provide user interaction and support.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work within a team.
  • Experience in the design and development of ground segment products and technologies.
  • Eligibility for British National Security Clearance.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Experience with Mission Control Systems, preferably based on EGS-CC.
  • Experience with cloud full stack processing (e.g. AWS).
  • Experience using one or more of the following:
    • Automated Testing Frameworks.
    • DevOps experience using containerisation, such as Docker.
    • Middleware technologies, such as JMS and COBRA.
    • API’s.
    • User interface design.
    • Knowledge of JavaScript including libraries such as jQuery, React and Angular.
