We are looking for a Senior Earth Observation Expert with strong expertise in EO (Earth Observation) data elaboration, processing, and interpretation to join our AI team focused on downstream applications and prototyping.
You will play a key role in handling and exploiting SAR and Optical EO data, extracting actionable insights, and supporting the development of innovative AI-driven geospatial solutions.
This position is open to protected categories under Italian Law 68/99 (“Rules for the right to work of disabled people”).

Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- EO Data Elaboration & Processing: process, refine, and enhance SAR and Optical EO datasets for diverse applications.
- Advanced Data Exploitation: apply scientific methodologies to interpret EO signals, extract information, and enhance data usability.
- Feature Extraction & Modeling: develop techniques for deriving meaningful insights from EO imagery, including spectral, temporal, and spatial analysis.
- Downstream Application Development: contribute to AI-driven EO applications, supporting the handling, processing and integration of remote sensing data into machine learning workflows.
- Prototyping & Innovation: collaborate with the AI team to create proof-of-concept solutions that demonstrate the value of EO data in various domains.
- Multi-Sensor Fusion: integrate data from multiple EO sources, including free and commercial satellites.
- Scientific Research & Technical Support: stay updated on the latest advancements in EO processing, AI, and geospatial analytics to drive innovation.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Master’s/University degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Engineering, Aerospace, or a related field. A PhD in Earth Observation will be considered an asset.
- At least 3 years proven experience in EO data elaboration, focusing on both SAR and Multispectral/Optical data processing and analysis.
- Strong scientific understanding of EO signals, remote sensing physics, and geospatial interpretation techniques.
- Proficiency in EO data processing software like QGIS, SNAP, GDAL, ESA Toolboxes.
- Knowledge of EO platforms such as Google Earth Engine, Sentinel Hub, or AWS OpenEO.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, with a research-driven approach to EO data exploitation.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Experience with AI/ML techniques for EO data analysis, including deep learning for feature extraction and classification.
- Programming skills in Python (or MATLAB/R) for EO data handling and feature extraction.
- Familiarity with Machine Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn for geospatial applications.
- Understanding of AI-based techniques for change detection, object recognition, and EO-driven predictions.
- Knowledge of data fusion techniques for combining EO with ancillary geospatial datasets.
