We are looking for a SatCom Space Segment Engineer to work at ESA’s ECSAT premises in Harwell, United Kingdom.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the activities in the Telecommunication Satellite Domain for cutting-edge projects.
About the client and location
The European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Harwell, UK. With special focuses on the link between space and telecommunications, ECSAT also hosts ESA’s Earth Observation Climate Office. It is from here that ESA’s Climate Change Initiative programme is executed.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Support the management of activities devoted to the development of telecommunication satellite technology and products.
- Support the initiation of activities related to technology and product development for satcom applications.
- Support the establishment and control of relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation.
- Support the evaluation, negotiation, monitoring and control of development contracts and activities.
- Support the preparation of inputs to status reports.
- Support by contributing to the preparation of technology and product development work plans.
- Support other members of the directorate on their projects by sharing expertise.
- Monitor market and technology trends and developments in the area of satellite communication.
- Cooperate with specialists in other ESA departments.
- Support identifying any issues during the procurement phase, the running or closing of an activity, and flag them for attention in a timely manner.
- Support the timely preparation of papers for Adjudication Committee meetings or Delegate bodies (IPC, JCB), with high quality standards.
- Support the provision inputs for the Department Business Intelligence management system.
- Supporting the promotion of ARTES and ARTES socioeconomic impact analysis.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Physics or Engineering, or a relevant field.
- At least 4 years proven experience in aerospace or telecommunications satellite design and manufacturing.
- Experience in the definition and implementation of low-level solutions.
- Proficiency in Project Management or management of sub-contractors.
- Expertise in one or all of the following areas:
- Satcom flight hardware
- Optical communications technology
- Digitilisation
- Satcom antennas
- FPGA’s
- 5g
- High integrity.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
