We are looking for a Programme Management Support Engineer to work at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany.

You will provide Management support to Department of Programme Preparation and Development (PRD) of EUMETSAT.

About the client and location

The European Organisation for the Exploration of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is a political organisation comprising of 30 European member states. EUMETSAT operates satellites to monitor weather, climate, and the changing environment. They are responsible for helping to isolate potentially dangerous weather conditions that could affect air travel, farming, and other key service industries.

The aforementioned Department:

  • Designs and establishes cost effective operational meteorological satellite systems.
  • Prepares new programmes and manages their design, development, and validation.
  • Manages cooperation with partner agencies regarding development, procurement and delivery of spacecrafts and instruments.
  • Ensures implementation of the EUMETSAT Management System and programme management, system and ground segment development processes, methodologies, and tools.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Contributing to the Risk Management process, including:
    • Tracking risks, analyzing, and reporting critical issues and supporting the close out of risk mitigation activities.
    • Where requested, coordinating the preparation of the risk Sessions, and maintaining/updating the assigned Risk database.
  • Where requested, in view of the project schedule update and of the critical path analysis, providing input to identified interfaces.
  • Providing KPI inputs related to the assigned tasks (e.g. Risk Management, Actions Management), monthly in view of issuing the Programme Monthly reports.
  • Preparing presentations and synthesized status reports for internal (e.g. report to management) and external purposes.
  • Contributing to the preparation and execution of the Programme/Project Reviews, providing input on the assigned tasks and, where requested, coordinating the management standpoint.
  • Tracking actions, analyzing, and reporting critical issues and supporting the close out.
  • Participating in team management meetings and with partner agencies, contractors, internal stakeholders, etc. as appropriate.
  • Coordinating and maintaining, in coordination with the project control team, the Project Management Plan, Team Organisation Chart, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Work Packages, Product Tree, and related documents.
  • Supporting the control of the baseline definition (including evaluation of Change Requests, Change Proposals, Requests for Waiver / Deviation, etc.).

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • University Degree or equivalent in engineering, science or a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years proven experience in performing project management activities on large and complex development projects in the aerospace (or similar) domain.
  • Demonstrated experience of defining system interactions and successfully implementing them in a large project.
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures and processes.
  • Knowledge of systems development lifecycle.
  • Ability to write appropriately from various written or verbal inputs.
  • Computer skills with strong experience with/ability to use MS Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Certification in project management or in project management disciplines.
  • Experience of Space programmes Ground Segment development and/or Earth Observation systems development.
