We are looking for a Junior IVV Engineer to work with ESA from the Starion office in Frascati, Italy.

About the client and location

The IVV and Operational Support Engineer will support the integration, validation and transfer to operations of new Copernicus Ground Segment service elements, testing evolutions of the interfaces and the data flows, and support the routine conformance and benchmarking assessment of the Service interfaces within the Ground Segment.

This position is open to protected categories under Italian Law 68/99 (“Rules for the right to work of disabled people”). Questa posizione e’ aperta alle categorie protette L. 68/99.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Support the definition of the test plan, cases and procedures.
  • Support the definition and implementation for automating test execution.
  • Test execution, interpretation of results and support to reporting.
  • Preparation and the Ground Segment Conformance Test and Benchmarking Test environments.
  • Identification of anomalies, anomaly investigation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Support to integration and validation activities of Ground Segment service elements.
  • Support the transfer to operations and reporting.
  • Execution of investigations in case of operational problems and open anomalies, interacting with other team members to resolve problems.
  • Provide 8/7 on-call support (on voluntary basis) in coordination with the other team members.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • University degree in Engineering or a technical field that provides similar competences.
  • At least 2 years of IVV experience on complex and critical systems.
  • Knowledge of testing automation tools.
  • Capacity of shell programming and bash scripting.
  • Familiarity with Git and SVN.
  • Capable of working to schedule and milestones.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Previous working experience of the Copernicus Ground Segment operations.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • Knowledge of cloud facilities & tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
