We are looking for a GeoSpatial Application Engineer to work for EUMETSAT remotely.
About the client and location
The European Organisation for the Exploration of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is a political organisation comprising of 30 European member states. EUMETSAT operates satellites to monitor weather, climate, and the changing environment. They are responsible for helping to isolate potentially dangerous weather conditions that could affect air travel, farming and other key service industries.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Supporting the refining and improving high-level requirements and high-level architecture definition.
- Independent technical verification of the DestinE Data Lake service increments.
- Participating in regular technical interaction and exchanges with Data Lake Service provider.
- Generating and following up on problem reports and non-conformances.
- Contributing to root cause analysis and proposing corrective/preventive actions to avoid re-occurrence.
- Technological solution evaluations in areas required for the DestinE Data Lake.
- Setting up and executing usage scenarios versus the implemented service increment.
- Supporting, reviewing and contributing to Data Lake service.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Strong experience with metadata standards for scientific data products, including ISO 19115.
- Solid understanding of OGC standards and modern workflow-management solutions such as Airflow, Celery, or Argo.
- Hands-on experience with geospatial data formats including ZARR, COG, NetCDF, GRIB2, and HDF5.
- Practical expertise in Earth Observation (EO) data processing, leveraging tools such as Spark, Jupyter Notebooks, and Python.
- Scientific EO background with programming skills to design, define, and implement usage scenarios combining Digital Twin models and EO datasets.
- Knowledge of technologies enabling Analysis-Ready Data, such as data cubes and cloud-native data formats.
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies applied to EO data, supporting advanced analytics and innovative processing workflows.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
