We’re seeking a talented FPGA Engineer to work at our office in Diegem, near Brussels, Belgium.

Your initial mission will be to design, implement, and verify FPGA-based digital logic circuits according to customer specifications for the in-orbit early demonstration of the European RF Spectrum Monitoring System.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Design, implement, and verify FPGA-based digital logic circuits according to customer specifications.
  • Perform circuit simulations to verify the functionality of the design.
  • Generate timing reports and analyze the results to ensure that the design meets timing constraints.
  • Synthesize the design using industry-standard tools and place and route the design using industry-standard tools.
  • Develop test bench and simulation tools to verify correct logical functionality.
  • Work closely with software, RF, and hardware engineers.
  • Be in charge of the FPGA design solution in collaboration with the project team.
  • Support the layout of the card and the building and debug of prototypes.
  • Develop new features and functions for FPGAs by creating new design layouts, algorithms, and models.
  • Diagnose problems with existing FPGA designs and recommend solutions.
  • Create documentation on the design of circuits and their integration into larger systems.
  • Communicate with other engineers to coordinate efforts on projects.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Support customers during the development and testing phases.
  • Collaborate with other cross-functional team leads and engineers to plan and execute projects.
  • Ensure that teams have appropriate product and technical requirements, direction, and resources to deliver products effectively.
  • Identify new technology that can be added to our Technology and Architecture Roadmap planning.
  • Provide input on project budget and capital equipment needs.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • University Degree or equivalent in in Electrical Engineering, Electronics engineering, Computer science or a relevant field.
  • Experience with FPGA design, Verilog or VHDL.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Tcl.
  • Experience working with Altera Quartus or Xilinx ISE or equivalent design software, Analog or Digital simulation, C/C++.
  • Experience developing firmware architecture and code for systems implementing wireless or signal processing algorithms on a software-defined radio.
  • Strong logic/board debug, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with writing requirements, design documentation, and test documentation.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Ability to write unit tests, participate in peer reviews, conduct design reviews, and generate test plans to ensure maximum stability and quality of code.
  • Experience with interface protocols like PCIe, USB, Ethernet.
  • Motivated, independent worker to fit on a small problem-solving team.
  • Adherence to accepted standards for development.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead hardware discussions and collaboration efforts with other hardware teams and organizations.
  • Knowledge of space system engineering and design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards ECSS.
  • SCRUM Familiarity: Knowledge of SCRUM methodology.
