We’re seeking an experienced Space Mission Project Manager to work at our office in Diegem, near Brussels, Belgium.
Your initial mission will be to lead a consortium composed of Starion and two subcontractors to ensure a successful delivery of the in-orbit early demonstration of the European RF Spectrum Monitoring System (ESMS).
You will have the opportunity to work in a challenging environment with state-of-the-art technologies within the cybersecurity and space domains. As a Project Manager, you will be working closely with our ESMS Technical Lead as well as with our Program Manager based in Diegem and the BELUX Operations Director.

Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Supporting the Operations Director, Program Manager, Technical Lead and Project Controller to organise the project execution from the System Requirements Review (SRR).
- Taking full responsibility for the definition, documentation and completion of the next project phases.
- Maintaining communication with the customer and its technical representatives, ensuring that reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure and customer expectations.
- Collaborating with Technical Leads assigned to the projects.
- Identifying, assessing and managing risks to aid the success of the project.
- Ensuring that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained.
- Providing regular and accurate reports to stakeholders such as ESA, BELUX VP or Starion Executive Management.
- Communicating and coordinating project activities with the project team (Starion staff, partners, subcontractors) and ensuring that priorities are identified.
- Facilitating efficient communication across all levels of the project (Starion staff, partners, subcontractors, and clients) to ensure consistency in reaching the project’s goal and to help recognize any potential opportunities, risks, or complications.
- Managing the project resources and costs.
- Offering expertise, background skills, and experience to aid in the project completion.
- Building strong customer relationships and supporting the Business Development function in expanding business with the client.
- Providing support to commercial proposals elaboration as required.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- University Degree or equivalent in Telecommunications or a relevant field (such as Systems Engineering, IT, Computer Science or Cybersecurity).
- At least 5 years proven experience in project management for space systems.
- Experience participating in technical discussions with a project team and enabling a solution-driven process.
- Experience working with government agencies, industrial, academic and non-profit organizations.
- Rapid self-starting capabilities and experience in team working.
- Excellent communication skills, presentation preparation skills, and the ability to present in front of an audience.
- Good planning skills and the ability to multitask across various subjects.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Application of ECSS or similar project management standards.
- Knowledge of space system engineering.
- Experience with Agile (or similar) development processes.
- Understanding of current state-of-the-art Information Technology, including public and private cloud deployments.
- Understanding of data processing systems and related architectures.
