We are looking for a Data Processing Engineer to work at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany.
You will have the opportunity to assist in the engineering activities of the data processing systems and application software for the operational and future programmes within the DPSA CA, including Processing Frameworks.
About the client and location
The European Organisation for the Exploration of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is a political organisation comprising of 30 European member states. EUMETSAT operates satellites to monitor weather, climate, and the changing environment. They are responsible for helping to isolate potentially dangerous weather conditions that could affect air travel, farming and other key service industries.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Maintaining and developing the Data Processing Systems/Application Software.
- Procuring activities for maintenance and evolution activities, such as specification and maintenance of requirements for new or enhanced Data Processing Systems.
- Contributing to the definition and design of architectures of data processing ground segments and their components, their interfaces, and the validation and verification methods.
- Coordinating with other EUMETSAT Teams and/or Contractors to prepare introduction of new/upgraded components.
- Generating and maintaining technical baseline documentation.
- Contributing to the operations of existing data processing ground segments.
- Analysing the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools required to fulfil them.
- Performing routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as anomaly investigations, documentation and classification.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- A sound demonstrated working experience on modern C++ under LINUX .
- Proven experience in developing or maintaining complex SW systems working over networks (client/server, multi-process and multi-threaded).
- Experience in engineering of large, UNIX or LINUX based, complex, real-time data processing systems, including requirements specification, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing and system integration.
- Very good experience of building (cmake) and debugging (gdb a.o.) code, as well as package management (RPM).
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Experience with Fortran / SVN.
- Hands-on experience with Object-oriented software design, implementation, and maintenance, including the use of UML/SysML based tools for supporting/documenting the design, at least at the architectural level.
- Sound knowledge in database environment and Doors.
- Good knowledge of web technologies and programming (e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, XML).
- Good knowledge of other programming languages (e.g. C++, Java).
