We are looking for a Cloud System Engineer to work at Starion’s premises in Frascati, Italy.
As a key technical leader, you will be responsible for configuring, deploying, and maintaining physical and virtual IT infrastructures, ensuring enterprise-grade performance, reliability, and security across all systems. You bring deep expertise in cloud and system administration, combined with a strategic, forward-thinking mindset and a passion for driving continuous improvement in complex IT environments.
About the client and location
STARION Group’s offices in Italy are based in the city of Frascati, located a short 30 minutes outside of Rome. Home to many of our expert employees, our Italian team focuses on services for the European Space Agency (ESA) at their Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN), amongst other projects. Here we also harness capabilities for cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) on both space and non-space projects.

Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Gathering technical requirements and perform deployment, configuration, and maintenance of both physical and cloud-based IT components.
- Managing user accounts, access control, and related security policies.
- Maintaining and allocating computing resources across the infrastructure.
- Monitoring system performance and availability, proactively identify issues, and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintaining detailed documentation of system architectures, configurations, and network topologies.
- Collaborating with development and DevOps teams to ensure smooth integration of new services and platforms.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in system administration, preferably in hybrid or fully cloud environments.
- Proven experience with both open-source and commercial cloud infrastructures.
- Strong knowledge of major operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.).
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda) or equivalent (GCP, Azure).
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Experience with data cataloging, metadata standards, and related technologies.
- Programming or scripting skills (Python, Java, Bash, or similar).
- Experience with open-source Earth Observation (EO) platforms (e.g., OpenEO, Sentinel Hub).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
